Dear Venetian Isles Homeowners:
My Firm represents the Venetian Isles Homeowners Association, Inc. (the “Association”). The Board of Directors has asked me to respond to the recent Nextdoor post about the revitalization of the Declaration of Restrictions and Protective Covenants (the “Declaration”). 1. First and most importantly, this is NOT an attempt to change the corporation into a Chapter 720 “homeowners association.” The Association is, and will remain, a not-for-profit corporation subject to Chapter 617, Florida Statutes. Dues will continue to be voluntary. 2. The reference to "UNDER FLORIDA STATUTE 720.405(6)" in the package you received is because the law (Section 712.12, Florida Statutes) requires “non-720” homeowners’ associations to use procedures in Chapter 720, Florida Statutes, for revitalizing the Declaration. This does not mean that the Association is, or will be, subject to Chapter 720 for anything other than the revitalization procedures. 3. No changes are being made to the Declaration in the revitalization process. Not a single word has been changed. Dues will not be mandatory, and liens will not be placed on properties. The ONLY thing that revitalization does is reinstate the provisions of the Declaration, as written, for a 30-year period. Revitalization will not turn the Association into a Chapter 720 homeowners association. 4. Pursuant to the revitalization process, a majority of homeowners must approve the revitalization by signing and returning the consent forms you received in the package. If this is achieved in the initial 90-day period, the process requires the Association to send the results to the Department of Econominc Opportunity (“DEO”) in Tallahassee for approval. Upon DEO approval, the Association will then notify the homeowners that the Declaration has been revitalized. If you have questions, please contact a member of the Organizing Committee, whose contact information is contained in the package you received. Thank you for participating in operations of the Association. The City of St. Petersburg has launched its first residential composting program. Residents in single-family homes are invited to sign up the free program and minimize their environmental impact by turning kitchen and yard waste into usable, nutrient-rich fertilizer for their lawn or garden.. Participants in the composting program will receive a composting bin from the City to use in their backyard. There will be no collection service, and the resident will be responsible for feeding and maintaining the bin. Please note that to comply with the Venetian Isles Deed Restrictions, compost bins cannot be placed in the following areas:
More information and the composting bin request form can be found at www.stpete.org/composting. Questions can be directed to composting@stpete.org. Venetian Isles residents and their guests cheered on the Tampa Bay Rays as they took on the New York Yankees at our ever neighborhood baseball outing on July 5.
Even if you’ve never met him, Stephan Alfieri, may touch your life every day. Stephan is the mail carrier for half of Venetian Isles* and at the end of May, he’ll be retiring after 41 years of government service. We recently asked him about his experience working in our community.
How long have you worked for the Postal Service? I joined the Postal Service after serving 4 years in the United States Navy. Except for 4 months, my entire 37+ year postal career has been spent in the 33703 delivery area at the Gateway Mall Station. How long have you been working in Venetian Isles? When I first started at the Postal Service, I delivered mail on all routes in the station as a substitute. My first time delivering mail in Venetian Isles, I knew that was where I wanted to have my permanent route. Then in 1982, I got a route that included part of Venetian Isles and I have been here ever since. Throughout the years, with all the adjustments to the various routes, I have, at some point, delivered mail to every house in Venetian Isles. What do you like most about working in Venetian Isles? It’s not only a great place to deliver the mail, but also a great place to live. I see it every day. It’s such a tight knit community. Neighbors looking out for and helping one another – that’s special! What are your plans for your retirement? I’m planning a nice Carribbean cruise with my wife in October. I’m also looking forward to spending time with my grandkids, painting and working around the house. I’ll keep active and do some volunteer work too. Is there anything you would like to say to the residents of Venetian Isles? It has been an honor, a privilege and a pleasure to serve you. I thank you for your thoughtfulness and kindness throughout the years. You’ve always had a nice word for me and that means an awful lot! I will truly miss my route and all the wonderful people in Venetian Isles. Show your appreciation for Stephan and wish him a Happy Retirement by leaving him a note outside your mailbox on one of the following days when Stephan is working:

Throughout his over 40 years living on Kansas Avenue, Bob devoted countless hours towards making Venetian Isles a great place to live. Bob served on the V.I.H.A. Board, including several terms as Board President, in addition to working on the Architectural Review and Deed Restriction Committees among others, and volunteering for projects big and small.
There is no doubt that Bob made an impact on our community and his presence will be truly missed. Our sincere condolences to Bob's wife Carol and the rest of the Johnson family. Bob's obituary can be found at: andersonmcqueen.com/tribute/details/111774/Robert-Johnson/obituary.html#content-start |
